Illustrations
My illustrations are drawn on a iPad.
My starting point was years ago when I lived in Tokyo and learned about the Japanese woodcut technique – separating each colour to an own woodblock.
But on the iPad it evolved rapidly to something own hence I had no additional cost with additional colours.
The base is a photo I have taken and then separated in to different colours. I’m drawing a line around each colour not unlike the black lines in Japanese woodcut prints or in Cartoon illustrations. There after I fill in only a part of a simplified colour scheme to get a graphical effect.
I do not involve Ai or Ki in my working process … because, I like drawing. And when I started in Tokyo with this illustration technique, it was a perfect working situation: only an iPad and a lot of time hearing music, radio or simply drawing in silence.
In a way – Japanese woodcut print meets Pop Art.
What kind of photo I take as a base make a huge difference …
The “Mori Tower” is based upon a “real” photo and has thousands of colours and it is possible to make a big picture. The “Tulips” are drawn on a iPhone photo and have fewer colours … and I can make it bigger afterwards.
